Moc Chau Highland locates nearly 200 km from the center of Hanoi and 4 hours by car. This highland has long been considered one of the most attractive destinations in Vietnam, especially in the plum blossom season at the beginning of the year.
What season is the most beautiful in Moc Chau Highland?
Moc Chau has four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter with mild weather and full of fruits all year around. In January, the highland has the green color of budding tea hills, peach blossoms, plum blossoms, apricot blossoms, cherry apricots.
From May, plums begin to ripen and local growers harvest them and sell to traders in the lowlands. In summer, there is no flowers and not strawberry seasons. However, the highland is very suitable for picnics because of the fresh air and many outdoor activities.

There are eco-lodges (with mountains, lakes, houses on stilts) or homestay-style community guesthouses. The price of a room is around 300,000 VND per night but there are also many motels with lower rates.

Pine forest in Ang village
Pine forest locates in the area of Ang village in Dong Sang commune, Moc Chau district, Son La province. It is two kilometers far from the center of Moc Chau town along National Highway 43. With a total area of over 43 hectares including soaring green pine forest, this place becomes a new camping spot in the Northern region.
Mu Nau plum valley
At the beginning of May, Mu Nau plums have produced quite large and ripe fruits. Because the road to Mu Nau is difficult to go, tourists should choose a manual car instead of a scooter. If renting a weak car, tourists should only go alone. As for the weak steering wheel, tourists can rent a two-way motorbike taxi. Although it is a bit difficult to go, the result will be unique photos in the background of the waterfall falling into the emerald green lake.
The depth of the lake on the second and third floors is quite large. Also, the stone surface is also full of moss, which iseasy to slip and fall. Therefore, tourists should be extremely careful when moving. The estimated height from the foot of the waterfall to the third cascade is around 150 m.
From the center of Moc Chau town, tourists follow Highway 43 for about 25 km. Next, tourists turn with the sign saying Nang Tien Waterfall 2 km, then turn right and continue straight to the destination. Also follow this path, tourists will continue two kilometers to reach Chieng Khoa Waterfall.

Dai Yem Waterfall
The waterfall is located on the Vat stream, which is a combination of two streams in Vat village, a very old Thai village. Before reaching the waterfall, tourists should go through Ho Hen stream. Dai Yem waterfall is massive with a height of more than 100 m, divided into two parts. The upper part has nine floors and the lower part is five floors. The two parts is separated at the middle of a flat land, which are suitable to have fun and enjoy the scenery.
A special feature here is that there are rock formations of many shapes, causing the waterfall to split into many parts before flowing into the lake. Therefore, the water flows are not rumbling, but soft as a silk. Tickets to visit the waterfall are 100,000 VND per person. There are plenty of restaurants and bars here.
A new check-in place that is being loved by many young people in Moc Chau is grassland 68. In fact, this is a grassy hill planted to serve dairy cows.
To get to this place, tourists will find the restaurant 68, then turn left and continue to see a lot of grasslands. Note that before taking photos, tourists should ask the landlord’s permission.
The best time to take beautiful photos here is around 5 pm onwards, when sunset falls. At this time, the sun is not too strong but still enough for you to have an impressive photo album.
From the center of Moc Chau town, tourists will follow the direction to Tan Lap commune about 3km, to the sub-area 26/7. Then, turn right onto the small road, go another 1km to the grassland. This road is accessible to all vehicles.
The village is a new destination of Moc Chau, so very few people know it. The village is located in Hang Tau valley, Chieng Hac commune. The village owns a very wild and primitive landscape as the name suggests. The village has 15 households living and freely raising buffaloes, cows, pigs and chickens in open fields but divided into plots or zones.
Note, to go into the village, tourists should rent a local person, who knows the way. The way is very difficult to find and there are no signposts, also. Tourists need to be hard on the steering wheel and should not ride the scooter because there are many ramps. Pha Luong Peak
Located 30 km from Moc Chau town, Pha Luong Peak is likened to the roof of Moc Chau, between the Vietnam – Laos border. Pha Luong is over 2,000 m high and it takes us four hours to reach Pha Luong Peak by foot. The road to conquer Pha Luong is quite difficult, requiring the perseverance of those who want to really explore. Where the top of the mountain is precarious, you will feel the beauty of the windy sky.
What to eat and drink in Moc Chau Highland?
There are a lot of restaurants along the town center section Highway 6 passes. In addition to specialties such as plums, tea or milk, Moc Chau is also famous as a delicious eating place. The dishes not to be missed when coming here are chao veal, fried stream fish, all kinds of lentils, salmon hotpot, pork blood soup, and kitchen buffalo meat.
